Typing Speed Test
Measure your typing speed in words per minute (WPM) and accuracy. Select a duration below, then start typing the displayed passage.
How Does the Typing Speed Test Work?
Our typing speed test measures how many words per minute (WPM) you can type accurately. The standard formula treats every 5 characters as one word. When you start typing the passage displayed above, a timer begins automatically. Your WPM, accuracy percentage, and error count update in real time as you type.
You can choose between a 1-minute, 3-minute, or 5-minute timed test, or type until you finish the full passage without a time limit. The test ends automatically when the time runs out or when you complete the passage. After the test, you'll see your final results with the option to try again with a new passage.
What Is a Good Typing Speed?
The average typing speed is around 40 WPM. A speed of 60-80 WPM is considered above average and is common among professionals who type regularly. Speeds above 100 WPM are considered exceptional and are typically achieved by transcriptionists, programmers, and competitive typists. Accuracy matters just as much as speed — a high WPM with poor accuracy means you'll spend extra time correcting mistakes.
Tips to Improve Your Typing Speed

- Focus on accuracy first — speed will follow naturally with practice.
- Use proper finger positioning on the home row keys.
- Try to avoid looking at the keyboard while typing.
- Take short breaks to prevent fatigue during long practice sessions.
